Phoenix International Raceway underwent a $178 million remodel completed over a period of two years. It included an expanded and relocated concourse with escalator access, entertainment areas and an unground tunnel system providing access to the infield. All 37 acres of the infield were also redesigned to include garages, fan-experience zones, paths for service vehicles and a new leaderboard that required 140 tons of steel.
The project was completed under tight budgets and timelines, while maintaining a serviceable raceway for the public throughout most of the construction period. As a result, detailed scheduling and innovation were key to a successful build.
