Back in 1976, Schuff Steel was founded and operated as a “steel manager”. Without a shop of our own, we leveraged great relationships with quality sub-fabricators to build our company into the industry leader we are today. Of course, times have changed and we now enjoy the most fabrication capacity in America by way of our nine fabrication shops – but Steel Management is still one of our most popular services and remains an important part of our success.
Our Steel Management service offers our clients the peace of mind that comes with knowing their steel subcontract is being furnished at the lowest possible price while being managed through our reliable, state-of-the-art systems. To manage our projects as efficiently and accurately as possible, Schuff developed a proprietary tool known as SSIMS (Schuff Steel Integrated Management System). SSIMS allows us to integrate data from all of our different management systems, enabling us to gather real-time information on any given piece of steel. Has material been ordered? Has it arrived? Is the piece detailed? Has it been released for fabrication? If so, where is it being fabricated? What is the status of fabrication? Has it been shipped? Has it reached the destination? For every vital question, we can now find an answer quickly.
For a negotiated fee, Schuff will manage the steel subcontract, breaking apart the scope into distinct categories based on type of work and construction schedule. We will send out RFPs to our vast network of reliable sub-fabricators and present the results and recommendations to our clients. Because of our volume purchasing power, Schuff will purchase the raw material in bulk and send it to the successful sub-fabricator, saving our clients additional mark-up on the raw steel purchase.
The Steel Management concept has worked successfully for projects of all sizes and schedules. Our clients enjoy saving time and money by taking advantage of this unique Schuff service. This is just another example of how we differentiate ourselves from the competition.
